  • Mom got visa at Mumbai Consulate

My Mom had her appointment at the Mumbai Consulate on 29th March. She is a widow and was a little apprehensive of the whole process initially. Her interview time was 11:30a.m.; she was interviewed at 3:30 p.m.

    Questions asked:

    1. Why do you want to go to US?

    2. When did your husband pass away ?

    3. What does your daughter do ?

    4. What does your son-in-law do ?

    5. How did you husband pass away ?

    6. What does your son do ?

She was granted her visa for 10 years.

I would like to thank all the people on this forum who answered my questions and also experiences of other people from various posts were immensly helpful in preparing my mother for the interview.

    Thanks to all.
    Namita.

            Congrats Namita.

I am in the same situation as you. My mother is a housewife and widow. We are 4 sibling and other than me everyone else is in India. I believe this might show some ties back to India.

If you don't mind, can you tell me how many siblings you have and if they are in India or US. Is your mother housewife or working? I appologize for such personal questions. I am just trying to guage the rationale behind the decisions made by CO.

I am very skeptical, because I have heard lot of cases where widow's case have been rejected.

What documents did you sent to the vfs and how much earlier than the interview date. Also I noticed in thie website it is mentiones that all sopnsor documents also to be submitted to vfs. Please advice.

            Thanks and congrats again.

                Hello,

                Usdude:

                Regarding your questions:
My mother is a housewife; and I have one sibling who is in India.
The documents to be sent to the VFS:
DS-156, DS-157, DD of issuance fee Rs 2300, HDFC original receipt, copy of important pages of passport(of the applicant).
All the sponsor documents are to be carried at the time of the interview; none of them need to be submitted to the VFS prior to the interview.
Also I think if your mother is able to show sufficient ties to India; and she answers all the questions posed to her during the interview then she should not have any problems.
                Good Luck to her.

                Bill:

I do not have much information about appointments that can be taken under emergency.

                Regards,
                Namita.

                    Hi,

My mother is a widow and her interview is in the next month. For the first time I am seeing in this discussion that documents need to be sent to VFS. I am worried about that becuase I havent sent anything to VFS till now.

I booked my mom's appointment online through VFS website. WOuld this take care of it ? Also, how would I send applicant's passport copies? Should I ask my mom to send them ? Please let me know the address that all these documents need to be sent. Please reply asap.

                      hi dharwad

                      hello,

looks like the practice of forwarding documents in advance to VFS is only
followed in Mumbai section. Pls look at below URL

i dont believe same practice exists for other centers like chennai/kal/delhi

                      pls chk
