  • Twins on the way! How can i bring my mom for help?

    Hi everyone,

Here's my situation. So I am a permanent residence married to an American. We have one 2 yo child. And we are expecting twins this April.

Things are getting crazy really fast. So, we will need help and my wife's family cannot be there to help us.

We want to see if we can bring my mom here so she can help my wife with the babies once they're born.

I have a few questions I need help answering. But first a few information about her background to consider.

    Conditions:

    1. She's 51 years old and single. Unemployed and considerably poor.
    2. She's never been abroad before nor had a passport.
    3. My wife and I would take care of all her needs while she's here and she would live with us.
    4. My church here would also be sportive.

    My questions:

    1. With what visa can/should I (try to) bring her to the US?
    2. How long can she stay with that visa maximum? (We are looking for a help for at least a couple months.)
Any other suggestions you may have?

*I just saw that there is a visa for housekeeping, nanny etc. How different would that be over a visitor visa?

Thank you for reading and considering to help. I appreciate it.
    Blessings!

    1. Apply for visitors visa.
    2. Six months.

      Thank you for the reply.

I just read somewhere that there is a visa for housekeeping/nanny. How different would that be over just a touristic visa?

If they suspect that she is coming here to help with household stuff or help take care of the kids, they will deny her the visa, or deny her entry, because that is work, and she is not authorized to work.

Bringing your household employees to the US is possible if you are here on some temporary nonimmigrant status, or if you are a US citizen not residing in the US. It is not possible if you are a permanent resident or a US citizen residing in the US.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

When you naturalise you can petition your mother to immigrate and then she will be able to work.

Theoretically there are temporary work visa's, H2b, but would be very difficult and expensive to obtain.

There is the J1 for Nanny's but not applicable in this case.

In the mean time she can visit if she can get a Visitors Visa. Apply and find out.

Child care is expensive in the US.
