  • Need some Info ??

    Hi Guys,
Can anyone tell me how they issue a visa i.e, if the CO chooses to issue a six month visa, is that issued six months from the date of the visa interview or is it any six months within a year. I am so confused, because i am having my mom's appointment in june, but i want her to come here in september and stay for 4 months from september. If she is issued a six month visa from june, then it will be expiring in nov. Is this the case??

    Thanks in advance!!

Visa starts on the day of approval. So if ur parents get visa on June 1, it starts on that date. They have to enter USA before the expiry of their visa. (say November). But if thet come in October, they may get 6 months on the I94 which actually determines the duration of their stay. Assume they get 6 months on the I94 when they come in October, they can stay here 6 months from October.. Hope this helps

      Hi Dahlia,
Thanks so much for your reply. So, does it mean if my mom gets her visa approved on june 29th, she has to enter U.S before dec 29th, but even if she enters on dec 1st 2006, she can stay till june 1st 2007. Did i get it right??
      Thanks!!

Theoretically yes, but it all depends on the officer at the POE. So if she comes on Dec. 1st and at the POE, IF she gets 6 months, the she can stay 6 months from december. But if she gets only 3 months on I94, then she can stay here only for 3 months from December 1st. Normally people gets 3-6 months at POE.
