  • Visitor Visa for Indian Parents

    Hello,
Is there a post/link to the process for visitor visa for parents from India ? I found it on USCIS but I could not find process for visa in India, I heard recently they started two appointments for photo, finger prints & then next one for visa interview. Also do we need to upload photo on DS 160 or they take it during their first appointment ? Can photo with spectacle accepted ? I recently moved to USA and doing it for the first time, please share dos & don'ts & step wise process, I have to do everything from US as parents cant really do this, they are ~ 65 years old. Can fees be paid online from US?
    Thanks.

    Hi Alfa16,

Please follow the info on this link http://www.ustraveldocs.com/in/in-niv-typeb1b2.asp Other useful site are: https://in.usembassy.govhttps://www....migrant-visas/ and https://travel.state.gov/contenthttp...t/visitor.html

    - Yes now they have two appointments 1) for photo and fingerprints 2) for visa interview. (you will know this while confirming their visa interview date)
    - You don't need to upload the photo on DS-160 anymore.
    - Effective November 1, 2016, eyeglasses are no longer allowed in new visa photos, except in rare circumstances when eyeglasses cannot be removed for medical reasons; https://travel.state.gov/contenthttp...al/photos.html
    - Yes you can pay the fee online http://www.ustraveldocs.com/in/in-niv-paymentinfo.asp

    For dos and don'ts:
    - Just follow the procedure and be ready with all the supporting documents mentioned on above websites at visa interview.
    - Be clear, precise and true in whatever you mentioned in the application (and in sync with visa interview).
    - If the visa officer see the intent is not to get settled in US there won't be any issue with the visa.
    - Catch while filing DS-160: They don't accept LNU (last name unknown) on DS-160 in case you only have first name on passport, if you do have this case, you will write FNU (in first name in DS-160) and first name from passport (to the last name in DS-160)

    All the best,

        Hello,

If you really want to send the invitation letter, create something like this.
Sample invitation letter to parents for USA B2 Visitor Visa or USA Tourist Visa to travel to the USA.

        This should be enough.

        Regards,
