banker's cheque

My parents have interview approaching closer. They were in the process of getting DD for Rs 2300 in nationalised bank. They are local residents of chennai.
Most of the banks refused that they cant issue a DD locally as per the rule of RBI and they can only issue a Banker's cheque instead of the DD.
Will the consulate accept bankers cheque instead of a DD??
The bankers say if we insist a DD they can provide it but later it might not be valid and can be cancelled in future during the process.

Did anyone submit banker's cheque towards visa issuance fees?? In that case did you get the Visa without any problem??

Can someone from chennai please respond to my query below. Were you able to get a DD from chennai banks..If so what bank was that?
Its really urgent..looking for some response.

I am not from chennai, but try SBI.. They will definitely give DD's

If you have NRE/ NRO account. you can send a DD from that account. I sent from my Citi NRE account.

My MIL had interview 3 weeks ago and she took DD from SBI. She is also a resident of Chennai. Hope this helps.

thanks for all your replies..
unfortunately SBI bank seems to be in strike now.
we had mailed VFs and chennaiconsulate.
Chennai consulate says they accept Banker's cheque...whereas VFS says they accept only DD.Not sure whom show we follow here.

sam64, thanks for your reply too..I cant send from NRE account as my parents have interview early next week.
