Is Transit Visa Reqd???

My mom Is traveling on May 25th from Bangalore to chicago via London By british Airways....Does she needs to get transit visa. Can Somebody plz help me with this. Also Is it wise to buy tickets before going for visa. She has her appt on May 11th..I am confused.

Transit visa is not required for Indian citizens having a valid US visa. Buy tickets after getting the visa. There is not harm in blocking tickets before the visa because you don't pay for them.

If its the same flight she doesnt need a transit visa... i.e if the layover time is less than 2 hrs she need not get a transit visa... Better check with a travel agent they usally know the norms and the latest stuff...

Transit Visa is not required if somebody is holding a valid USA visa. I myself have travelled two times in last year on that route. Make sure that he/she is leaving USA with a valid visa (atleast a day/two) if your return is also in BA. If he is staying in I-94 or extension then you need to arrange for a transit visa while returning.

Transit visa is not required if you have valid US visa stamped on passport, don't worry. They can always call the British consulate in Chennai or even you can call the consulate in NY and check with them.
