  • Visitor Visa Got Rejected 4th Time at Mumbai Consulate

My in-laws had their interview today (April 11, 2006) at Mumbai Consulate.
It was their 4th Attempt in 2 years. The interview time was 10:00 AM but it actually happened at 1:30. Thye stood outside w/o water for 3 hrs.

Interview went fine....few basic questions were asked?
    1. Where are you going?
    2. Who is in India?
    3. Who is in USA?

They have a younger (28 Yrs Old) single son and an Old (80 Years) mother-in-law in India. They are 58 and 53 years and retired with no pension. They have few Assets (house/Village property/gold and some bank balance).
We prepared all the papers thoroughly with CAs help.

Only paper CO checked was Affidavit of Assurance (coming back to India) which my wife prepared for them.

They were not happy with our Assets in India and told on face to my in-laws that "America is a strict country and you are not eligible to go there. Sorry we can not grant you Visa at this moment."

Seems like the earlier couple had a big fight with CO as my in-laws could hear through the glass door and CO was not in happy mood.

I don't know what to do next? Contact Senator/Congressman? Try for mother's Visa only ? or Just forget.......

    Any advice is welcome.

    sorry to hear this

I'm sorry that your in-laws have to go through this. I wish they told them what exactly was the reason - the word "strict" gives me little curiousity.

    - Is there something from their previous interview which is causing this problem? I strongly think that there has been something marked against your in-laws and is causing the problems. I would frame a letter to the consul general in mumbai and ask them the reason for rejecting after 4 attempts. It won't hurt.

    - did they have an auditor's letter for all the property they own?

    - I can send you the format of letter I wrote to the consulate, I know you must have researched enough into this but if you need let me know.

I know this must be devastating to your and your wife but hey this is not the end of the world, right? So please build up your spirit and give it a try again.

    good luck,

While I am sorry to hear about this, this is surprising co-incidence. My parents had visa appointment at the same date/time as yours (11-apr, 10AM). As you said, it was badly delayed upto 2pm.

I am at loss of imagination why would they refuse your parents visa when they have son in India. Are you sure you have all your documents in order? In my case I am the only son and have two married sisters in India. First time my parents visa was rejected on same grounds.

One suggestion, for how many months you have asked for visa? Make sure you never ask for more than 2 months if its just family visit/tourism. We asked for 6 months first time and it wasn't convincing enough (6 months of family visit)

So good luck to you and wish your parents get visa.

I really dont uderstand this, Mumbai consulate has become the worstconsulate in India, they dont see the papers clearly, they give 10 year vis to a 25 year old guy and reject a 79 year old man, its a shame that the excellent mumbai consulate has gone to such level today.

Think they have to balance right? Chennai which was the worst now is the mecca for visitors visa and mumbai is the iraq LOL

I hope this improves - my parents are applying in september from mumbai... they were rejected twice. They just want to come visit usa - they have better life in india with business and other activities...

          Lets see what happens...
