  • B2 Visa rejected, need of assistance.

Hi, today I went for my consular appointment in Delhi, India US Embassy and my B2 visa application was rejected. Here is the conversation matched exactly-
    V.A- Good Morning.
    Me- Good Morning.
V.A- Can I have your passport?
    Me- (Gave Passport).
V.A- Why do you want to go abroad?
    Me- For tourism.
V.A- Have you been outside India before?
    Me- No.
V.A- What does your father and mother do?
Me- Mother is headmistress, he was an IT inspector.
(VA nodded, I am sure he perfectly understood what I said.)
    V.A- What do you do?
Me- I am pursuing b.tech from IITD.
V.A- Was does your father do again?
( Wanting to confirm the status of employment.)
    Me- Retired IT Inspector.
VA- That makes you ineligible for visa.

The conversation was fine but as soon as I told him again about my father, he denied the application.
My parents have land, govt. jobs, family in India and a good fortune, my father freelances as CA and mother gets handsome salary, plus rent and other interests. And I, a student who worked hard to get into IIT, no importance to my mothers worth or other sources of income was given by him and he saw no documents.
Does that mean a student with retired parent has no right to travel even though he has sources of income? Does retirement nulls the other ties to the country like college, land, family?
Please assist, after how long should I re apply and what changes should I bring about in my interview.
    Thanks.

If your father freelances as CA, why didn't you say that? He is not really retired in that case.

Does he pay income tax on that income?

    If no, why not?

If yes, show that the next time.

I didn't think that would be a problem, since I took with documents of ample of income through interests. He does file ITR every year, showing all the incomes.
How long should I wait to apply again?
Also does that mean a student with retired parent won't be allowed even though his/her mother earns?

If your father is working and earning money, he is not retired. He just left one profession and entered another.

Apply again at any time with this information.

But the reason for the refusal was retirement only, right? Then does that mean students with retired parent cant get visa?
Also do I need to make new account on CGI Federal or use same id, because it does not option for new application.
What are the chances that visa will be approved if i apply within a week?

B visa applicants who lack strong ties to their home residence have the odds stacked against them. Best of luck

Yes, I understand that. But my parents have 3 properties with proper deeds, mother is a headmistress in NCERT govt. school, I am pursuing my B.tech degree from IITD, my whole family with two married sisters live in Delhi, India and other relatives. Aren't those enough ties?
Actually, i said he is retired is what I did wrong, I should have said about CA, because the VO didn't ask me about my family, land anything else, just what does my father do.
What do you think is there chance on applying within 3 days or should I drop the current plans and try later?

If you are an adult, your parents strong ties to their country isn't imputed to you

Do you have a history of traveling abroad since becoming an adult?

No, i turned 20 this year and I was giving my final board exams and entrance exams so didn't have any free time for tourism. I will be completing my first year in college on may 1st followed by a month of holidays in which i was planning to go for the first time.
There has to be first time for everyone, be it a student.

I don't think your father being retired had anything to do with your rejection though the line of questioning gives that sense. Had he said 'That does not qualify you for a visa' without asking that your father is retired a second time you would not have attributed to it. I think its your young age and single status that went against you. The VO rarely look at documents (property, income etc.) because it is very easy to create **** documents in India (I am not saying you did it) and unfortunately some genuine folks like you do get denied.

I made a mistake in the post, i first told him that "He was an IT inspector" then after he asked i confirmed he is retired.

Your likelihood of success in obtaining a B visa will be improved after you build a track record of visiting foreign countries - especially developed countries
