  • B1-B2 and Taxpayer ID

    Hello,
My friend has 3 year tourist visa which is about to expire, newer over staid, she is visiting her son who is under 21 and in college here in US. She is planing to go back in her country to renew it, last year in order to open an bank acc. she applied for taxpayer id. My question is, if having Tax ID will affect to renew tourist visa. Thanks.

Having an ITIN will not affect her non-immigrant visa application

Thanks for your replay Inadmissible, I would appreciate if you could give me more details. As I know having ITIN means you reported some income while visiting US, same time you can't work with B1-B2 visa. During interview (which is actually not required to renew tourist visa) officer at embassy may think applicant applied for ITIN to get the job, but applicant did it because someone at bank recommended her to get an ITIN to open an bank acc.
      Thanks for your help.

You can't get a job using an ITIN. Many foreign nationals with investments and passive income from the United States have ITINs. It doesn't mean they were unlawfully present or worked without authorization

Thanks Inadmissible, I tried to ask to several lawyers this question but they never gave me an answer, do you know any lawyer in NYC who is able to help me out with this?
          Thanks, again.
