  • total duration for 182 days on B2 visa

    Hello Friends,

I just booked my parents return flights to USA and back to India. When I calculated the exact days its coming to 182 days?
Is this an issue? Will the officer stamp the visa for 180 days only?
Or will my parents have to show the return tickets to the officer when they land here and ask for 182 days validity.
    please advise.

    Thanks in advance.

It will generally be for 6 months (not a particular number of days), including the day of arrival and day of departure.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

Well, not sure about your case but all my entries were clearly stamped with exactly 180 days! Few years ago, if was just for 6 months...so if you were arriving on April 21st, they were giving you until October 21st. Simple as that. But now I am receiving crazy dates (few days missing to match the exact day) so I believe someone is controlling the # of days to match 180 days. Maybe good to wait for more experts...and, the worst part, you need to follow the date CBP are going to put in their I-94 that, eventually, will be less than the # of days you are considering right now.

If you arrive on April 21, they would give until October 20, because it includes both the day of arrival and day of departure. If they gave until October 21 that would be 6 months + 1 day.

Yes, newacct. This was happening until 2014/beginning of 2015 and was like that since 2010. Now it is exactly 180 days.

In the past, I was getting extra days...what was not really important as all my trips are shorter than 5 days - I don`t work on weekends!!! When you travel as I do, doesn`t matter really...my only problem in immigration is to find a page in my passport...the rest is just casual conversation.

So, for this question in the forum, most likely the parents will get 180 days not 182...

            Thanks so much Guys.
the days i have booked are from July 12th 2017 to January 9th 2018. since it was less than Jan 12, i thought i was good but when i calculated the exact days while getting the insurance i realized its going to 182 days.

July 12th 2017 to January 9th 2018, you guys still think it can be an issue? Shall i ask my parents to talk to the officer at the airport by showing them the return tickets and request them to get a stamp till Jan 9th?
Changing the flight dates now will be expensive.

Why not change the tickets to an earlier departure date and get away with this.. If they are coming by any Gulf airlines (emirates/Qatar) its just $50/per ticket to change
