  • What should be the validity of the passport

I want to call my mom to the US from Oct 2017 to April 2018 and her passport expires in Aug 2018 , is she good to travel ?

Jet airways says that she cannot travel .
British airways says they dont know.
Indian Embassy never picks up the phone
Uk embassy wont give any answers and
i found this on the DHS website :

I am totally confused and the last thing i want is that my mom is not allowed to board the flight.

    Any help will be appreciated

    Thanks a lot

She can enter the US as long as on the day she enters, her passport is valid for at least 6 months (or valid for any period if her passport is from one of these countries, including India). At entry, the date she will be admitted until will be limited to no later than 6 months before her passport expires (or the day her passport expires, if it is from one the above countries).

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

So in short she cannot stay till April as planned ? Because her passport expires in Aug of next year which means that she would have just 4 months remaining on her passport after the intended stay .

Thats whats confusing me , The links above say that the 6 month rule does not apply to indian passport holders
Yes she does have an Indian passport

Oh so it does mean that an indian passport holder is able to travel to the US and stay till the day/date the passport is set to expire (In my situation her passport would still be valid for 4 months after her return to india) . Am i correct ?

I am not sure why Jet Airways would keep saying that the passport has to be valid for 6 months beyond the intended stay in the US -
