  • Parents got visa in 3rd attempt( Mumbai Consulate)- May 2

My parents got visa today i.e May 2nd at Mumbai consulate. This was their 3rd attempt and was really tensed but I had prepared the documents properly and also prepared my parents with good answers and what to do.

First attempt was in May 2005( english- dad could not understand one question and was rejected based on that), second in Aug 2005( marathi but it did not work and VO did not see any docs) and now- May 2nd 2006. First two attempts nothing changed except the I-134 and bank balance. But this time I had a letter from my school that I want to invite them for graduation ceremony and also had a good balance to show( but VO did not ask).

The most important thing I told my Dad was if the VO officer asks a question, answer in 1-2 lines and while talking start taking out the supporting doc even if they do not ask. Last 2 times they did not see any docs and I wanted the VO to see the docs. So I had asked my dad to do so and it worked.

Parents had interview at 10.00 but they were called only at 1.30. The VO was old guy and pretty cool. A couple was rejected in front of my parents and a girl got her F-1 I believe so. Then came my parents turn.
VO: Why are you going to USA?
Dad: To attend my son's graduation ceremony and he took out the letter from school ( though VO did not ask for it). He said here is the letter from school and VO took it.
VO: He saw the letter and said ohhhh your son is a student???
Dad: No he is working with YYYY since Nov 2004 and was studing while working. Dad took out my employment verification letter and tried to take it out and VO said OK let me see it.

He saw the letter and said oohhh your son works for this company. ( my company is very big fortune 500 company).

VO: When did your son graduate ?
    Dad: In dec 2005
VO: Who is going to pay for your tickets and stay in US?
Dad: My son is going to bear all the expenses and he handed over the I-134 to the VO( VO did not ask for this as well).
VO: (Looking at the I-134)...where do you work and what is your salary??
Dad: I work for YYYY and my salary is YYYY /year
Vo: what does your second son do?
Dad: He is currently working in India
VO: (Again looking in detail at I-134)....I do not know why the previous VO rejected your application as I do not see any reason to reject based on the documents you have provided and affidavit of support your son has provided.
VO: I am going to approve your visa and have a wonderful stay in USA
Dad: ( By the way all this interview was in marathi and the translator was lady who was also nice. My dad understood everything but he did not want to mess it up so he opted for Marathi again). The last sentence my dad did not wait for the translator and quickly said THANK YOU SIR and have a good day.

My mom was just waiting and she heard VISA approved, she was thrilled and wanted to get out and call me.

I am really happy that everything worked out fine.

Thanks to this forum and the website as I have got lot of information and prepared my docs as per this website.
