  • Parents Visa Rejected - word to word conversation of Interview

    Hello All:

Friends, I am trying to analyze what might have gone wrong in my parents visa interview. So I am posting word to word conversation of the session. To me the VO seemed extremely arrogant, irresponsible, irrational and has no respect. Probably my view could be biased but I am sure anyone going through this conversation would feel the same. Read on. Please help me to find if something was done incorrectly.

Note: To the best of our knowledge, all the documents were prepared according to the advise from immihelp and were in proper order.

The appointment time was at 11am Chennai Consulate on May 1st and my parents went before the VO @ 1pm.

VO (supposedly very young, 30ish) just arrives.

    Father: Good morning

VO: why are you going to US?

Father: To attend my son's graduation ceremony and to visit places of tourist attraction in US. My father hands over the invitation letter from the University and also a personal invitation letter from me. (The invitation letter has my full name, SEVIS # and the letter states that I have graduated on such a date but intend to take the walk on May __. It also states that my present status is OPT).

VO (furious): Your son has violated the rules. He went to US to study and now he is on OPT and later he will find a job.

VO: How much did you pay for your son's education

Father: The total tution cost is 18lacs, I paid the 1st sem tution and from 2nd sem my son got funding.

VO: How many children do you have?

    Father: a boy and girl

    VO: where is she?

Father: She is married and resides in ____. She is on dependent visa. [on DS-156 we mentioned that both son and daughter are in US for what so ever honest reasons inspite of me saying NO to that]

From here on the VO goes berserk, has no clue of what he is talking. First time I have ever heard of a VO so rude and irresponsible.

VO: Both your son and daughter are in US and they will never return back. I see you do not have enough financial documents.

Father: No sir. I have abt __ in liquid assets in saving account balance, fixed deposits, shares and __ in fixed assets and he tries to handover the supporting documents [By this time the VO seemed to have already rejected the visa. he takes the passport slips in the rejection reasons letter - observed by my mom ofcourse she realized all this when the passport was handovered to them]

VO: I don't need to see them. I know you have all those. Your son is earning money and he will send. You have lot of money. I see you do not have enough ties in India.

Father: No sir. I have many other commitments like looking after my old parents and getting my son married and apart from these I have so many assets in liquid and fixed which need to be looked after.

VO: That is not enough. Your application is rejected.

Father (in panic. guess that was inevitable): Sir, please try to understand. She (looking at my mom) has taken so much pain in bringing up our son and this is the only chance to see her hardwork ripe. She wants to see just the graduation ceremony.

VO: There is nothing to see in that graduation ceremony or in US.

    Father: Sir........

VO: You go away from the counter or I will walk away from here and pushes the passports out of counter.

Father: Thank you for your time.

I am extremely disappointed by the way the VO has handled the case. More than the pain of rejection it was the way how he behaved which hurt my parents very deep. Wish I could complain about this to the Consulate General.

    Thanks.

    UK.

Hmm VO was very rude. All I say is it is purely luck. It depends on the VO Mood. My parents visa got rejected on 214B section the first time and second time my mom was issued visa with out even touching a single document expect my mom's passport and DS-156. So please do not get frustrated and I understand your situation. Keep trying and I am sure they will get visa this time.

Wow thats is really sad!! I dont think your parents couldve done anything different that would have changed his mind... VO definately was rude. Its pure luck as yukta says try again and hopefully they can make it in the next time.
We have the same issue, both siblings are in USA so no family ties as such and they were rejected twice so far!!! They are going to try one more time...

Good luck and thanks for your detailed info about the conversation.

        Hi Chaitanya,

Sorry to hear about your parents case. It is mostly based on the luck. Ask them to try again.

But I just want to tell about my case too. I came here in F1 on 2001 and I started working on CPT from May 2003, then I got my H1 on Oct 2004. I graduated officially on June 2005.

I went to India for vacation on Dec 2004 and I did not graduate at that time. I went to Chennai consulate for my H1 stamping. The lady VO officer shouted at me saying that you people go to US to study but you start working, we need to be very careful in issuing student visa and something like that. She made me to wait for 30 mins, she closed the counter and came back and called me and gave the visa. She threw the pink card on the counter and said "Go back to work". I really had bad experience at Chennai consulate.
I think it is mostly depends on VO mood and our luck.

Ask your parents to try again.

        Good Luck!

        Regards,
        Swetha

Dont worry Chaitanya, it happens as it has happened to me twice and I did the same mistake of inviting my parents when I just started the job. Did not show much balance in the bank and parents also did not show any properties than the house in previous interviews. This time I had made the affidavit with good bank balance, stocks, properties and my dad also showed property for 2 house, his bank balance, life insurance( though he did not see any of my dad's docs). The VO was interested only for my docs.

From the interview what I understand is that your parents are sponsoring themselves and both of you are in US which itself is strong point for rejection. My brother was in UK last time when they went and the moment my dad said the other son is in UK it was rejected. This time when they went my brother is India working which helped I guess.

Dont loose hope and try next time. I know how it feels as I have been through this twice.
