Hello All:
Friends, I am trying to analyze what might have gone wrong in my parents visa interview. So I am posting word to word conversation of the session. To me the VO seemed extremely arrogant, irresponsible, irrational and has no respect. Probably my view could be biased but I am sure anyone going through this conversation would feel the same. Read on. Please help me to find if something was done incorrectly.
Note: To the best of our knowledge, all the documents were prepared according to the advise from immihelp and were in proper order.
The appointment time was at 11am Chennai Consulate on May 1st and my parents went before the VO @ 1pm.
VO (supposedly very young, 30ish) just arrives.
Father: Good morning
VO: why are you going to US?
Father: To attend my son's graduation ceremony and to visit places of tourist attraction in US. My father hands over the invitation letter from the University and also a personal invitation letter from me. (The invitation letter has my full name, SEVIS # and the letter states that I have graduated on such a date but intend to take the walk on May __. It also states that my present status is OPT).
VO (furious): Your son has violated the rules. He went to US to study and now he is on OPT and later he will find a job.
VO: How much did you pay for your son's education
Father: The total tution cost is 18lacs, I paid the 1st sem tution and from 2nd sem my son got funding.
VO: How many children do you have?
Father: a boy and girl
VO: where is she?
Father: She is married and resides in ____. She is on dependent visa. [on DS-156 we mentioned that both son and daughter are in US for what so ever honest reasons inspite of me saying NO to that]
From here on the VO goes berserk, has no clue of what he is talking. First time I have ever heard of a VO so rude and irresponsible.
VO: Both your son and daughter are in US and they will never return back. I see you do not have enough financial documents.
Father: No sir. I have abt __ in liquid assets in saving account balance, fixed deposits, shares and __ in fixed assets and he tries to handover the supporting documents [By this time the VO seemed to have already rejected the visa. he takes the passport slips in the rejection reasons letter - observed by my mom ofcourse she realized all this when the passport was handovered to them]
VO: I don't need to see them. I know you have all those. Your son is earning money and he will send. You have lot of money. I see you do not have enough ties in India.
Father: No sir. I have many other commitments like looking after my old parents and getting my son married and apart from these I have so many assets in liquid and fixed which need to be looked after.
VO: That is not enough. Your application is rejected.
Father (in panic. guess that was inevitable): Sir, please try to understand. She (looking at my mom) has taken so much pain in bringing up our son and this is the only chance to see her hardwork ripe. She wants to see just the graduation ceremony.
VO: There is nothing to see in that graduation ceremony or in US.
Father: Sir........
VO: You go away from the counter or I will walk away from here and pushes the passports out of counter.
Father: Thank you for your time.
I am extremely disappointed by the way the VO has handled the case. More than the pain of rejection it was the way how he behaved which hurt my parents very deep. Wish I could complain about this to the Consulate General.
Thanks.
UK.
