Truth or not for B2 visa to boyfriend

So, if there's a scenerio where you're visiting your boyfriend on a B2 in order to see his family, so that you can have stronger evidence for a K1, do you go ahead and say the truth that you're visiting your boyfriend?
Or do you just say "friend"?
Boyfriend might end up being primary sponsor of the trip and my housing, feeding etc. Isn't that too much for just a "friend" to do?
What is just the best path that guarantees a visit visa when a romantic partner is involved?
