  • Beginning date of VISA

    Friends -

One another question. In DS-156 we need to answer this question: "When do you intend yo arrive in the US".

If I specify a future date (say 6 months from now), will they give me a VISA whose validity begins from the date I specify here against this question or the VO/CO decides the beginning date?

The VOs expect you to plan well in advance when you are going to spend more (3-6 months) time away form home and spending lot of money on travel etc. So if you say “we may go sometime in next 6 months or so” they would suspect your purpose of trip.

They may also think that, if you are planning to travel after 6 months there is no need to attend the interview this advance and the people who wants to go early can get appointments.

I don’t think date of journey will decide visa start date.

I think you may in be trouble if you go 6 months advance to and issues just 6 months visa. (No angry please)

I do understand that you can travel even on the last day of visa; I would not recommend doing so. (Just my personal opinion)

Hope you understood what to put there
