  • change or modify forms DS-156 and DS-157

Many donot know the forms can be changed/modified

I changed my parents & in-laws stay period after 5 months (after fixing appointment) at chennai, that too 1 week before interview (which took place this week of may).

You CAN CHANGE no problem at all, but you CANNOT change 2 days before interview (as all the info goes to consulate from VFS).

If you have questions just email [email protected] (just check exact email w/vfs site). They reply within 2-3 business days. I communicated few times (prompt reply)

Note: you can change all info on DS-156 (except questions 1 to 14) and all on DS-157

Also note if you filled form online you can change online, but if filled at vfs centre pesonnaly, then you need to go personnaly to make change

    regards

This is the email content from vfs

    Dear Sir / Madam,
    Thank you for your email.

Kindly note that you cannot modify the details online if you have booked the appointment personally from the VFS office.

    Thanking you,
    Regards
    VFS Team

    ====================

    Dear Sir / Madam,
    Thank you for your email.

    · Modification on the application forms is not allowed from Q- 1 to Q-14 on the DS 156. Only from Q-15 onwards modifications is possible. For DS-157 & DS-158, there are no such restrictions. If you wish to modify:

    · Logon to our website. Go to apply for a nonimmigrant visa.

    · Go to retrieve/modify option.

    · Enter the HDFC Bank receipt details and retrieve your application.

    · You can then modify, DS-156 form (Q-15 onwards), DS-157 form, DS-158 (if applicable) and petition details.

    · You can modify your application 2 days prior to your interview. The system will not allow you to modify within two days of your interview as the data will be downloaded and handed over to the Consulate. Any modification after that will be done at the Consulate level at the time of your interview.

    Thanking You

    Regards
    VFS Team

From where did you get that SOLUTION, you're just not permitted to modify Q1 - Q14. Its not that VFS do not do it, they CANNOT nor should one make changes. If you carry 2 forms its like somebody made appointment and somebody going for interview.

what about the BAR CODE ? applications need to have bar code, only the original has it.

Best, check w/VFS ...ntn else to say

U can take a new printout of the DS156 and fill all info manually making sure that the changes u are making on the manual printout is with a different color or something. Take both forms for interview. Let the officer know abt the changes while they collect the forms.

My parents & in-laws forms were modified. (they did not do it online).

              1) Online forms - u can make changes and u can take printout w/bar code.
              2) But forms done at VFS, changes are done on the same form (that was done on my parents & in-laws forms NOT another copy making it two).

"Take two printouts, first one original (with typo) and second one changes highlighted." - this is ones own statement...did VFS say one can do it ?, has anybody done that at US consulate (any actual incident)?.

Actual incidents are the best advice/solutions, ones own statements are just assumptions (one cannot take risks)

I was telling based on my experience for my parents and not based on any assumptions.

ok, then thats good, another alternative (solution) to the problem. Since you did not mention your parents had done that, its difficult to know as to one can do it or not, it gives an impression of ones opinion.

By you clarifying, one can be sure and confident than doubtful & worried.

                  regards
