Need Advice - Extension for my Parents

Hello,
My parents are here on a 6 month visit and they will have one more month left. They hold a 10 year visa.

I want them to stay for an extra one month. What is the right way to do so? I don't want them to overstay without legal docs as they may have problems coming back again.

-Can they go out to the immigration post in a neighbouring country(Mexico/Canada) and come back in US? Does that help? Has anyone done this?
-Can we apply for a one month extension? On what grounds?

Apply for an extension. But there is an element of risk factor in it. What if it is not approved?
