  • Reentry in the usa

    Hi all
Not sure this is the right spot on the forum but I looked and could not find any section that applied directly to my situation. I hope someone can help me with this and it will be greatly appreciated.
I was living in the USA a few years ago and applied for refugee status and my application was denied by the immigration officer, the judge and the appeal board. I got married in the meantime to an American citizen but after the appeal board rejected my application, I received a letter from immigration for an "interview". It smelled very fishy so I decided not to attend that interview as I was sure they would have detained me and deported me. What I did instead is that I entered Canada where my asylum was granted and I am now a Canadian citizen. I am not sure if U.S immigration sent me a deportation letter as I left before I got one. I left the USA back in 2008. Now, I would like to go back and visit since my brother and my best friends still leave there.
Since I am now a Canadian citizen, can I just reenter the USA or do I need to apply for admission. I have no intentions whatsoever of staying in the USA.
    Thanks for any help.

I imagine that you are still inadmissible for unlawful presence and removal-in-absentia, bars that will only expire next year. If that is the case, you can apply for a waiver. Even though you do not need a tourist visa, I suggest you apply for one to get the benefit of an evaluation of admissibility by consular officers
