Hey all,
I hope you are well. Life circumstances recently made it necessary for me to move back to the U.S. - where I am a natural born citizen - from the Dominican Republic and I would like to get my girlfriend to come here on a tourist visa for some weddings within my family and friend group in August/September. She'd be here 1 week as the weddings are 1 week apart.
She has no previous travel outside of DR and is currently a student on scholarship at university there. She is entering her last year of university study and needs to go back for student teaching. I was researching this matter and found that saying she's my girlfriend and I would like to sponsor her was not advisable as consular officers generally view that as a red flag. I can financially support her on her visit.
I was also seeing - and an immigration lawyer friend of mine said so as well - that it would be easier if she had travel experience somewhere else. I am a also a Portuguese citizen and was thinking a trip to Portugal may be more advisable.
Are these accurate pieces of advice? What is recommended? No, we are not looking to get engaged or married just yet.
