  • Suggested Documents for Belarusian Girlfriend (University)

    Hello forum,

My girlfriend and I are both first-year students in our respective Universities; she studies in Minsk, Belarus and I study in Washington, D.C. We met two years ago and I have visited her on two separate occasions. US officials have, starting earlier this month, just reopened B2 visitor visa applications for all Belarusians, and we are excited to try to obtain one.

My questions are as follows: due to her (and me) not having employment, I am planning on listing my mother as a sponsor, who will then fill out form I-134 and send them to her, along with supporting documents like bank statements, etc. Do these have to be original, or is it at the officer's digression (mail takes a long and uncertain time to arrive)? I am planning on writing her, and the officer, separate letters affirming our relationship and her intent to promptly return to Belarus. Are there any specific details or supplementary things I should add, considering our relatively young ages (19, 18) and our lack of employment/self-owned property? My family is set to completely take care of her as our guest, though I'm concerned about how to best communicate this to the officer and what she should thus specifically provide to convince of her return.

    Thank you very much!

Edit: She co-owns a separate apartment with her mother; we are planning on using this as proof of owned property in Belarus.
