2 valid visas at same time

Hello Experts,
I work for a employer ABC and holding a L1B VISA valid till Feb 2019 and currently in India and do not have any plans as of now to travel to US on L1B.

I have my friend's wedding in US and want to apply for a tourist B2 visa. A few people told me that if I apply for any other type of visa then US Consulate will cancel my L1B visa as I can not carry 2 valid US visas at a time.

Can you please suggest if that is the case? Thanks.

You can have any number of valid visas at the same time, and can choose which one to use while entering the US.

I too heard too many people mentioned that their L1 is cancelled - while their B1 visa is approved.

The reason is simple, if they came to know that you no longer working with the US company (L1B) - then you don't need that visa anymore.

When you go for your B1 interview, do mention that your project is right now on hold & will be re-started soon. Since you don't want to misuse your existing L1B & hence applying for B1. This will not cancel your L1 & B1 will also be granted.

As mentioned earlier, you can apply & hold multiple non-immigrant visas (B1, H1, L1, etc) at any point of time, but not immigrant & non-immigrant together.
