  • Ques. re: stamp put on passport at immigration

Hi. I hope someone else can help me understand something. I am a US citizen and my husband is not (he has dual Canadian and a caribbean country as well). We reside in the Caribbean and have done so for about 14 years.

Anyway, in Feb we flew to Miami for 6 days and no problems. The border inspector stamped his passport with a c-1, which was quite odd since nothing has changed with us. He is not a resident, etc. We were just visiting and all prior visits they just would stamp his Canadian passport with a n/c or n/t, which I think is no tracking.

So we went back to the US in April, and he stayed for 3 days and was going to Canada without me to care for an ill family member, and returned 3 weeks later and stayed 1 week and then we all flew back to the Caribean together. But again, I noticed they put a c-1 on his arrival in the US again...(both times)

He has not applied for visa, status, etc, so can someone explain this to me if possible? Or do you think it is something that needs correction (maybe the inspector in Miami made a mistake??)?..

It just puzzles me because all that I found on the net was a c-1 relating to somone who is passing through the US and something about not more than 29 days. That was not the case in Feb. so I don't know why the new stamp. We file our taxes properly and he too (when needed) and the most time he has ever spent in the US was 3 months and that was for the birth of our child. So I am confused why they would change things.

I did call a number in the US to inquire, but the woman got all miserable with me because I was calling from outside the US and that I should go to the US consulate. Well, I would have called there today except it is a holiday locally..and I guess I was just curious now..

Thanks in advance for your answers or expertise..donna
