  • URGENT::::Letter from Citibank

immihelp.com mentions to get a bank letter with the following information:

    1) Date account opened
    2) Current account balance
    3) Total amount deposited in past 1 year
    4) Average balance for past 1 year

I spoke with the Citibank customer support and they said that they do have a template for Consulate Letter, but it only has items 1 and 2. They told me that they cannot give me information in item 3 and 4.

I am confused. Can someone help me ????

    Those 4 are important items.

Without items 3 and 4, it is possible that you might have just put lot of money one day before, borrowed from friend temporarily.

Items 3 and 4 gives them better idea that you really have the money that you are claiming.

Ask to speak to the finacial officer and ask them to manually type such a letter.

      Citibank Absolutely useless

I have never seen a more useless and arrogant bank. I have banked with them for well over 10 years now. here is my experience..

      - Asked for the letter, I was told that they do not issue a detailed letter.
      - They claim that it was designed with discussion with the immigration authorities (GOD knows who and which country... definitly not US).

I asked for 2 letter they express mailed me 1 letter that even some sort of a cheap Photocopied letter not even on a regular letter head.

I called back to review what was put into the system... the customer services guys in India are oblivious, they have no clue what is going on. They said yes it says 2 letters.. you got only one.... sorry.

They want to bill be another 12US$ for another express letter... again I get one letter the second time...

I got so pissed I called and said shove the letter UP your Vazu. I said I am not paying a dime, remove the 24US$ charge from my account.

They said Oh, there is no charge on your account when it does show up please call. So again I had to call and scream at them to remove the 24$.

I have an account at ING and they promptly sent me a letter exactly how I asked.. and I am using that letter.

Citibank will not budge, i spoke to many supervisors they are all stupid, they have outsourced to India where they cannot make this decision.

Also when you do get the letter its is a cheap photocopy which is very easy for anyone to produce with any number you want.... I don;t think the consulate will like the letter.

After giving them so much business for 10+ years I am pissed I just want my sister to get a VISA and I will close every relationship that I have with Citibank!

Time to change your bank ... don't you think !!!

That's what happens when work is outsourced. There is no expertise or domain knowledge, they only go by the book. If your request doesn't fall in the list that they have then tough luck they just can't do it !

Then again what more can you expect from someone who's being paid $5000/year as oppose to someone in the US being paid $25,000/year.

          Another important note

Even if you have a citibank account & citibank NRI account.

If you go to a citibank branch (In India) and draw money from an ATM they hit you up with a 1% transaction service change. I don't understand why.

They said, Oh that branch is maintained by Indian branch..

I ask so "WHY THE HELL DO YOU ADVERTISE AS CITIBANK" and not "CITIBANK INDIA".

In short its just a convenient way to rip you off on all fronts, lousy exchange rate, service fee for using their own ATM & a foreign transaction fee for credit card usage.
