  • Length of Stay B2, Visit to Canada

I have been approved a 10 year Visa for me, my wife and 2 kids with multiple re-entries. We are planning on going to the US as tourists, traveling around in the US and Canada for about a year. Our plan is to arrive in New York early August 2018 and leave from probably Seattle mid-August 2019. We'll purchase a car and travel trailer and head up to to canada to visit the "eastern" part as long as the weather allows it. Once it's getting colder we'll travel down south back into the US direction Florida and over to California during the winter and enter Canada for the western Part somewhere in June - July until early August, where we will re-enter the US to sell our vehicle/travel trailer an fly back home. We will enter the US on a one way ticket, as we cannot purchase a return ticket for the intended date yet, and since we are unsure of where we will end our trip, probably Seattle, but it could be somewhere else as well (wherever the wind blows us).

The main question is, does the B2 VISA support this idea? We will be in the US for a few weeks, then be in Canada for 1-2 months, then be in the US for 8 months or so, then be in Canada for another 1-2 months and be in the US for a week or so at the end. To sell our vehicle/travel trailer and leave. This means multiple re-entries and a extended length of stay.

    1) Can the officer at the point of entry allow for a 1-year or better even 1 year and 2 weeks stay?
    2) Does leaving an re-entering the US to Canada complicate things for the I-94, does it get reset/re-evaluated every time?
    3) Do I have to provide proof of intent to return to Germany (I own a house, I have a job, so does my wife)
    4) Do I have to provide proof of funds to keep us going for the length of our stay?
    5) Or does the fact that I have been Issued a B2 Visum with multiple re-entries suffice and I just have to hope the office at the Point of Entry allows it?

    Many thanks

You would be given an authorized stay of up to 6 months. After that, you have to apply for an extension.

You don't need to show the proof of funds initially but would need that when you apply for an extension.
