Hi,
I had made 2 major mistakes before I left US this summer after J-1 program:
1) I had really bad experience W/ my initial (approved) employer so i found different job - I made all paper work and had job offer signed by new employer. Anyways its approval by sponsoring agency took a long time so I started working before approval (note: legal way - including paying taxes, but not fully approved). After few weeks it was only 14 days remaining from my initial working-allowed time so I got an email from my travel sponsor that it does not make sense to do all the paperwork anymore, so I can still travel but I am not allowed to work!
2) I have still worked about 2-3 more weeks than allowed in my papers. W2 or paycheck do not show explicit dates tho.
I had left the country, than I came back few months later to do business meetings in LA. My ESTA is still active but I worry that some issues can appear during my next visits.
I saw few articles that similar things can be solved on customs - how big a deal can it be? Is it the same problem such as illegal work or ESTA overstay?
Thank you for all information!
