  • 'Advised' text in passport

    Hi,
I'm working in US on H1 for 10+ years. My wife is here for last 8 years. My parent inlaws had 10 year multiple entry B2 visa for last 7+ years. In a recent trip to US, at the port of entry there was lot of questioning on why they are applying for 6 months stay. The officer finally gave 6 month stay stamped(I also verified in online I94), but wrote "_ _ _ Advised"(looks like TIE/TEE/JIE/JEE advised) in the stamp, in both passports. They were also told verbally that they are warned. It looks like the main concern from the officer was duration of stay and multiple visits.
Could somebody help us understand what that means.

    Previous visits:

Both my parents hold the visa for 7+ years
    Mom travelled 3 times before
    Dad travelled 2 times before
last visit was 2 years(2015 Oct) earlier
last time mom got i94 for 6 months initially, but extended(approved) it for 5 more months
previous visits were less than or equal to 6 months

    Current trip details and purpose:
    - Arrived in May 2018
    - Spending time with grand kids(2) during summer
    - Younger kid starting school next school year(Sep 2018)
    - 2 Birthdays
    - Tourism

I have never seen that type of acronyms before.

But you can take it as "Don't stay for too long. Or Don't extend the stay or apply for change or adjustment of status."

As mentioned above it's likely stamped that way for future officers. It might be a way for them to note in your passport that they've been warned not to overstay and to ensure they leave before the expiry on their 6 month stamp. So that at a later date, they can't argue against this warning.

This is just conjecture, I am not sure if that's the case but it makes sense it would be. Other than that, maybe someone else can offer advice on it if they've experienced the same thing.
