Traveling during B2 extension

Hi, just wondering: after filing the B2 extension (and assuming it will be approved), can the petitioner travel outside the USA and return, just as if she would on the 6months yearly allowance? Or does the extension prevent any travel and it is considered one chunck of time?
I am applying for my Mom and once approved, she will have to travel and return.

Once she leaves the US, her stay is finished. Any extension of stay is also finished (and if the extension of status is still pending, it is automatically abandoned as it is moot). The next time she enters the US, she will seek a new stay from scratch on the basis of a visa.
