L1 B extention denied i797 and 194 valid till 2021

Hi My L1b extension got denied but my I 797 has no expiry date.
My I94 is valid till 2021.
I have L1b visa valid till 27 dec 2018.
Can I work and stay in US after 28 dec on I 797.If not is there any ways I can continue to stay and work
My Company will file my H1b coming year.
My wife H1b(filed as change of status from l2) is in processing can she stay on receipt no in US till case processing.

First, why did you file for extension, when you had a valid I797 without any expiry & I94 till 2021?

For Visa - You can stay indefinitely (ofcourse till your I94) inside USA without an valid visa & can leave as well, however for your next entry you'll have to apply for a new visa.

For Work - You can work as long as your I797 is valid.
