  • Visa rejected 2 times

I am the only child of my parents and my parents are from middle class background. My mother is voluntarily retired from the govt job and now getting a monthly pension. My father is working for a private firm. They had applied for their USA visa in last march 2005. It was their first attempt and their visa got rejected saying that I am the only child who is living in the states so they won’t come back. So under the section 214, (lack of emotional and family ties back in India) their visa was rejected. Later they had taken another appointment after a gap of 2 months or so and then again their visa got rejected under 214 b this time saying that they don’t have sufficient funds and I am the only child so they will not come back. My parents own a flat in Bombay and since both of them are earning and have made good investments, their income has increased. They have had well prepared documents both times including details of all assets and investments. My father had also attached his service certificate saying that he is just 55 yrs old and has 5 yrs of service remaining and he had only 2 months leave approved. We have also not applied for the green card yet and just now got our visa converted from J to H visa. So we have also not intentions of staying permanently here in the States. When our stay is not going to be permanent in the states how can we make our parents stay here with us permanently???????????? is my dad going to leave his job and self respect by staying at married daughter’s house in the states permanently?????? Now they have taken appointment in August again in Mumbai consulate. Can somebody suggest what they should tell the counselor and how they should convince the consular this time???????? Can anybody tell us how to show all the funds and income properly??????????? they had used a CA’S office the last 2 times, but can anybody give us some tips about showing all the funds and incomes???????
Need your help and suggestions urgently.

That really sucks. I applied for b2 visa for my mother in chennai. She got a 10 year multiple entry visa. May be try another consulate say calcutta or delhi. Unfortunately the decision of the consulate people is final. All the best.

well, they cannot try another consulate if they had not lived in that consulate area for the last 6 months or so,.

In your, I think what you can do is... wait for 6-12 months before applying next time. Ask parents to start submitting the related docs while answering the question. (if VO interested he/she may look into doc but no guarantee,
      it all depends on VO).
      Better luck next time
      Thx

It is frustrating to see this happen... But I think these days even widow mom's with only son or daughter in the usa are getting 10 years multiple... I think they have gone a little liberal... Hopefully they will get the visa this time...Good luck
My parents visa has also been rejected twice in last 5 years we are trying one more time - I know it is difficult since both us sisters are married here in the USA and have no other siblings in india... but we are staying positive about them getting the visa since a lot of parents have got their visa...
Try to show other familiy there and income and property and ask for a short duration like 2 months... to go back to their jobs and activities and also mention that traditionally they cannot stay longer at a married daughter's house so they just will be visiting you for a short time...

Good luck and keep us posted - my parents interview is in sept !!

Hello all, it is heartbreaking to see all these rejections. I am the only child and both my parents are retired. They were rejected twice from Calcutta. First time they said it was financial reason. Second time around it was the same old lame logic. Since son is in US you won't come back. This time we had asked for short term 2 mo visa and prepared all docs and affidavits. In spite of that they were rejected. My mother said that they didn't get much of a chance to explain to the VO or show any additional docs or paperwork in support of their ties back home. They were just told to leave and the VO moved away from the interview counter. It is just so rude. These people don't even care to show any dignity or repect to senior citizens. More ironic is the fact that they were interviewed by one Indian lady at the counter. To me it seems like that they have a policy of refusing visa to old parents with single child or all children in the US. Indians know darn well that old parents are the most unlikely to stay back illegaly. I am just so frustrated and disgusted with the whole process. Every once in a while I think they probably should have lied to get the visa. Since being straight honest and upfront only results in denial. Lawbreakers have a free reign and genuine travellers are harrassed for no reason. I think you should wait for at least 6 months. We waited about 7 months for the second attempt. But I think it is better to wait around a year for another interview. Too many attempts every six months might raise a flag. I do no think changing the consulate will help too much either. Anyways those are just my thoughts. Goodluck and please keep us posted on any updates.
