  • B1/B2 visa Renewal with change in Marital Status, Sponsor

I'm an Indian citizen residing in India and my B1/B2 visa expired in June 2018. But, as far as my knowledge goes, the visa can be renewed with a drop box facility(no interview) for the next 12 months of expiry. There are certain changes in my renewal application.

    The changes are as follows:
1)I wasn't married when my visa was issued in 2008 and I'm married now.
2)My father was my sponsor in 2008 and now it's my spouse.
3)My marital status and address are not updated in my passport as my passport is still valid.

Now, I'm not sure with these changes whether I'll still be eligible for drop box facility or will I still be called in for an interview.

Is it a good idea to renew now or should I wait and apply for a fresh visa when I have plans to travel next.

You can still renew your visa right now - I would not suggest to wait & apply for a fresh visa (it will have its own risk or rejection).

I would suggest to renew your passport (by updating your marital status & address - you'll get a new passport) & then renew the visa.

      Thank you for the response.

Since my sponsor has changed to my husband, will just submitting his financial documents along with the passport be sufficient, or will they want to call me in for an interview? Because it defeats the whole purpose of drop-box facility otherwise.

They won't accept any sponsor documents on dropbox. So don't worry much.

Also, sponsorship from parents & spouse is almost same thing.

I have made two trips to Europe recently with my existing passport on which my marital status has not been updated(Wherein I submitted my marriage certificate along with my other documents for visa as proof of marriage). So I was wondering if it is absolutely necessary in your opinion to update it before renewing my US visa.

Sorry for the confusion, USA does not require to have your spouse name in your passport anymore - you can still prove that with your local government marriage certificate, carried separately.

My point was to have the new visa in your renewed passport - which'll have all information up-to-date & you won't need to carry multiple passport/documents together. Hope this helps.
