  • Is there any way I can get my greencard? (Husband w/ mental health issues)

I went through lots of bad stuff with my husband since we got married 2 years ago. He has a diagnosis of asperger and depression and after lots of things that happened in his family after we got married he became a weed addicted and started spending all of our money in weed (against my will... of course)

He lost his job, then we got evicted from our apartment and everything is Fu**ed up. I have been trying to help him to go through all of this but all of my energy is done, even my mental health is starting to get affected because of his behavior. I give him all of the support that I can but I can't really work because I just have a visitor visa. HE does not want to be treated and he doen't do anything to move forward. I just feel completely lost in the moment.

Is there any way I can get my greencard even in such a terrible situation? The marriage is 100% legit.

What is your husband's status? & why are you on visitor visa?

You have not mentioned about the your husband's citizenship status. Is he a permanent resident? for how long have you been around?

I'm sorry you have to go through this. I think, your husband requires treatment. I'd start with a good psychologist who can persuade him to receive it. I suffer from depression myself, so I know how tough it is for my family. I was on meds, but they made my brain foggy. According to the Canada Drugs site, it was one of the side effects. Currently, I'm doing sports and yoga. And my family and friends support and help me a lot. Maybe you can also look for alternative ways of treatment.

If you have entered legally and you qualify for it (i.e., your husband is a US citizen or LPR. The rub is getting an affidavit of support for you if he's not working (is there some other relative that will be willing to go out on a limb?). If he is not one of those, then you're not getting a green card. Further, you better be sure that you intend to permanently reside here in the US. The purpose of LPR is not just to make it easy to enter and work on a non-immigrant basis.
