Hi all,
Thanks a lot to this website and all the folks who helped me for the docs and questions.
My mom got visa at Chennai consulate today (06/26/2006) . Interview was in Telugu and at 8 am. The duration of the visa is still unknown but I am expecting to be atleast for 6mon - 1yr.
Here are the details of the case:
My mom is a widow and I am the only child. Mom is a retired teacher . I am on H1 since 1.5yrs.
Here were the questions:
VO: When did your son last visit India?
Mom: December 2002
VO: What is the source of your income?
Mom: My pension, rents for our properties and my husband's insurance policies
VO: Is your son married?
Mom:No
VO: If visa is granted, would you make arrangements to your son's marriage would you do it in USA or India?
Mom: I will do it in India according to our Hindu traditions and customs
(Visa officer smiled)
VO: Do you live alone here?
Mom: No, I live with my in-law's family here (I mean that my mom lives alone in our home, but we have very close relatives in the same town. My father's elder brother's family - his wife, son, daugheter-in-law, children. They visit my mom daily)
VO: So is yours a joint family?
Mom: Yes (Eventhough we dont live together in the same home, I told my mom to say "Yes" ans show the photos that she took with my cousins to the Visa officeer. My mom showed the photo)
VO: Can you please show us your son's H1 docs?
Mom showed my H1 docs
VO: Okay, your visa is granted , but you should come back to India after 6months.
Mom: Thank you, Ma'am
That was all. The VO asked my mom to pay the visa fees and everything went on fine. None of the other documents were asked (My bank statement, paystubs , letters etc).
Both the visa officer and the translator were ladies.
Interview was at 8am. Mom went inside the consulate at 7.40am and came out at 9.30 am.
I was so nervous because I have been reading this forum especially on widow Mother cases and most of them got rejected. That too I am the only child..
Thanks a lot again for everyone on this forum.
