  • B1/B2 undergoing AP is complete

Hey guys, I hope anyone can help me here. I?ve applied for a US B1/B2 visa last year and my application was undergoing administrative processing till last week when I received an email telling me that my application is complete and I was asked to turn in my passport. Since my previous passport has expired during the processing time, I got a new passport that have a slight name change on it. When I sent them the new passport they asked me about the reason for the name change and to send them any document to support this which I already did. Since 8 days I have not heard anything from the consular office regarding my visa and I?m starting to worry it would take them a long time to reply or send me back my passport, what could be the reason for this delay since my application was already finalized and should not take long to receive it, should I send them an email or should I just wait until they respond?

    Application date: 3/13/2018
    Application last modified: 2/24/2019
    Today?s date 3/4/2019

At the first place, why did you change your name in your new passport. Let it be whatever it was since beginning.

There is pretty less chance for anyone with similar situation come to this forum & help you with his experience.

Actually my previous passport has my last name dropped when it was issued to me, I didn?t fix it immediately because it meant I have to wait for more than 3 months and pay extra money. When I applied for the US visa I had like 10 months before my passport expires so it wasn?t an urgency to renew. I have my birth certificate which has my last name matching the name in my current passport, when the CO asked me about the change of surname and that if I have any document to support it, I sent them a copy of my birth certificate and I thought things would go smoothly and I will receive my visa stamped passport in a couple of days but till now nothing happened. Is there a chance that my visa would be rejected for that reason?

You should have had spent 3 months in last 9 years (since your first passport was issued) & some money to get the name change on your passport. If not, you shouldn't have added your last name in the new passport.

For others benefit, keep the passports always in sync with your name mentioned in other documents & have it corrected as soon as possible, if there is any discrepancy, even for name of the parents as well.

Anyways, it is what it is. Lets hope they'll still give you the visa. There are chances that if they believe that both the passport belongs to two different person, they can return the passport without visa as well.

        All the very best!!

I had my interview for B1/B2 last Wednesday (Sep 4, 2019). The interview went smoothly but the consulate who interviewed me said my Visa Approved and she kept the passport. She did not give me any kind of paper. I checked my status now and it still says administrative processing for a week now.

          What is this all about?
