1. They play a role in overall process. However, if you they don't have anything, there is nothing much you can do.

2. Creating temporary documents like that will actually hurt their chances. If they find out, it will be considered as making things up.

I am in a more or less similar situation. My observation has been that even people with property worth cores are denied visa repeatedly and sometimes visas are issued just by asking 1 or 2 questions and the officers dont ask for any documents.
Ask your parents to be truthful and polite. Train them well on answering question and in the cover letter stress on points in your favour like siblings and family in India.
