Question relating multiple entry visa

I would like to know if there is any special application & fees for multiple entry visa.
My mom said she wanted to visit us for 3 months and they granted exactly for 3 months only.Should she have directly asked the visa officer for multiple entry visa?

No........its not her faault..............mutiple entry and duration of visa are separate......also she could hav e been given a multiple entry three month visa..........but the duration is entirely at the discretion of the officer............you must ensure that she returns before her I-94 expires and she can always apply again

Thanks a lot for your reply!Anyways i think we are lucky that she got a visa considering im the only child and she is a widow.I have heard its really hard to get visa in such cases.

Besides the three month Visa given in India doesn't dictate the time she can spend here anyways. Also if this is the first time, they always give a single entry (well most cases) and then the next time they usually give a multiple entry visa. The duration of her stay is dictated by the date that she gets on her I 94 at POE.
