  • Visiting after getting 6 months visa

    Hi,

My parents will be going to visa appmt in November and we are planning to send our in-laws in December .
If my parents get visa my in-laws will only be coming in June or July of next year.

My question is if they go to Visa in December and get a 6 month visa do they have to come immediatly or can they still come in July?

Is there a restriction which states that they have to visit within xx days of visa issuance in case they are granted a 6 month visa. Will their visa date start from the time it is issued or from the time they come to US ?

    Thanks!

No need to come immediately... and they cannot come in Jul (in this case) as the 6 month visa expires by that time

      Thanks for the reply.

So does this mean if they went in December and got a 6 months visa they can come any time before the visa date expires (june) and they can stay 6 months here.Is this correct?

      Thanks

They can come to US till the last day of visa... their stay in US determined by officer at POE. They can stay here as long as I-94 is valid

          Thanks for your immediate reply.

One last question. Is the Visa issue date usually the date they go for the appointment ?
The reason I am asking this is in DS156/157 they ask a question "When do you want to go to US" ?
So I was wondering if this date has anything to do with the visa start date?

          Thanks

Visa Issuance date is the date that the Visa was issued (the day they attend the interview). Info in DS 156 doesn't have anything to do with the start date. It is just an informative question for consulate.
