My boyfriend and I have saved a year's salary to be able to travel North America for one full year. We plan to backpack and buy a car/RV to do so. I am American, he is Swiss. He has a B1/B2 multiple entry visa good for 10 years. His father is an immigrated American citizen residing in Florida. His father will soon submit a family sponsored petition for his son to begin the immigration process.
Our questions are:
1) we want to travel for one year, is it better to get the usual initial 6 months I-94 and apply for another 6 month extension or do a couple months travelling in Canada, hopefully to recieve a new I-94 card?
2) If an extension application is filed, will his pending immigrant petition affect the USCIS' decision to grant him another 6 months? He has absolutely no intent to do anything other than travel, visit his father and spend time with me---he has sufficient funds to do so.
3) He is a 27 year old male, unmarried and of firm financial status--is our reasoning to be able to complete our intended tour of all 50 states reason enough for them to grant it, or should we consider another alternative plan?
Any personal experience in these matters would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
