This thread was very useful regarding the reschedule of visitor visa interviews. however there are some questions which were not answered. I thought it may be helpful to write about what i learnt to those who are trying to reschedule and lot of uncertinity about few things.
1. First time when u schedule a appointment for the visa you have to fill out DS156 and DS157 for each applicant. One appontmnet can contain multiple applicants (up to 10). If you are not satisfied with the date available, then you can save the applications and exit with out taking any date and try for a more appropriate date. everytime checking for the date involves browsing (clicking on continue) 6 to 7 pages.
2.If you take take a date initially and want to prepone, it is not possible. example..if you got dec 18 2006 initially and try to reschedule through reschedule.cancel link you will get the dates after dec 18th only. you can not see the dates before that even if they are available. That mean you can not prepone the appointment. you can postpone. that to you can postpone up to one time only. second time you have to cancel and take new appointment.
3. If you are desparate for a preponement, then you have to first cancel your appointment. Once you do that you will loose your all DS156 and 157 details. You have to fill them again and go through the process. However at the end of the process before taking any date you will have the option to save the application and exit (if you dont like the available date). when you do save and exit, ds156 and ds157 are saved and available for 7 days before they are getting deleted from the system.
4. I felt there is highly likely chance of getting a favorable date depending on how patient you are. you have to check for the dates patiently which involves 6 to 7 screens from "retrieve/modify saved application link from here
last screen where you see the calendar with latest date. In that screen you click on save and exit if you dont like the date.
you can do cancel and take new appointment two times.
you can do reschedule i.e post pone appointment without cancel once.
5. checking for dates..best times are 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm and 6
o am to 9:00 am EST USA. However i found what i want at 10:00 pm.
