  • Questions regarding DS-156/DS-157 and marriage certificate for mom's visa

I am applying visitor visa for my Mother. Travel agent took an appointment for her and it is scheduled for 28th August.

    1) But while he took the appointment he didn't take a printout of DS-156 and the appointment letter. Is there a way to get both now. What should be done to get the same. My parents have not taken a photocopy of the forms DS-156 and DS-157 before taking the appointment. So they dont remember what they have filled. Can i fill new forms and send it to my parents along with the other sponsor documents. Then they can stick a photo on it when they receive it.

    2) Do i need to send the original of Marraige certificate. Can i send the notarised copy. I just have one original copy of the Marriage Certificate. What do people usually do ... Do they send the original always.

    Please help.

    Thanks

if the forms were submitted online, you can make corrections (with some restrictions) and print it.
    Goto VFS site (https://www.vfs-usa.co.in/Home.aspx) select
"Apply For a Non-immigrant Visa" then follow the instructions.

      Thanks for the reply.

The problem here is the Travel agent has not taken the appointment online.
I wrote a letter to the mumbai counselate and asked for access to my mothers form online. To which i got a reply saying

      "Dear Sir/Madam,
      Thank you for your mail

Since the appointment was scheduled at the VFS centre and not online, you would not be able to retrieve the forms from the website.

      Regards

      VFS Team"

Any suggestions what i can do now?

Did the travel agent submit the forms @ VFS center or did your parents goto VFS center to submit the docs?
Either way, if the docs were submitted @ VFS center it may be better to contact that center

One question on this (though not so related).

Do we need to send original marriage certificate always. Or is it only true if the husband is sponsoring for inlaws.
In my case I just sent a copy.
            can someone clarify.

If you are sponsoring your parents, you don't need to send your marriage certificate.

If you are sponsoring your in-laws, you need to.
