  • In-laws visa got rejected in chennai

    Hi,

My in-laws got their visitor's visa rejected in chennai on 27th july.
They were interviewed by a burkha clad lady..

The questions they were asked were:

    Q. How many children do you have ?
    A. Two

    Q. Where are they?
    A. Both are in U.S

    Q. Where do they live in U.S ?
    A. xxxx place and xxx Place.

    Q. What do they do there ?
    A. They told them abt their proffessions..

At this point they showed them a declaration letter saying that their second son is also in U.S at so and so place and all the details abt him...

She seemed convinced with that letter.

    Then she asked

    Q. When did u retire ??
    A. My father-in-law said he is not retired , and is still working..

    Then she again asked ..

    Q. What business do you do ??
    A. He replied he is not into business .but is in service..

Then she asked him to show his tax returns.,which he showed,

The tax returns had less taxable income when compared to actual gross income..since my father-in-law is taking some deductions like home loan etc etc...(all the deductions are clearly mentioned in the tax return document ).

She just glanced at the returns and said that their visa is rejected..

Can, someone please tell me what could be the possible reason ...

Is it because both sons are in U.S ?? or Because of the tax returns???

And can someone suggest what measures we should take when they go for visa interview next time..

    Thanks in advance..

parents got visa after 3 attempts

do not worry ..just keep trying.
my parents visa got approved the first time for a year and they went back to India on time before expiry of I94.
They reapplied for another visit to the US they got rejected twice and finally got approved the 3rd time.
The 3rd time the visa officer did not even bother to look at the papers , nothing had changed between the 1st, 2nd and 3rd interview.
The first 2 times the visa was rejected due to reason 214B and that both children are present in the US . For the 1st interview the officer did not even bother to check any of the paperwork and had rejected it saying that both children are in the US, during the second interview a lady with a head scarf had grilled them with questions for about 30 mins and had rejected them for the same reason mentioning that both children are in the US.
For the 3rd interview in which the visa got approved both children were still present in the US so it just does not make any sense as to why they would reject the first 2 times. In fact , everyone was so exhausted and depressed with all the paper work prepration and unnecessary expense of about Rs. 20,000 ($400) for visa rejections that for the 3rd interview we kept the same I134 document from the 2nd interview and this time they did not even bother to check anything but granted a visa.

Make sure that you conduct mock interviews for your parents the questions asked are always almost the same, make sure that your address is updated with the INS, make sure that the passport office in India has the correct address of your parents.

Just keep trying and you will have daylight at the end of the tunnel.
