  • Help with visa refusal

My mother applied for a visa to visit me in the US for the 3rd time and it got refused. The problem is that the first 2 times that she applied with my sister, she did not mention that I was in the States as I could not have supported her at that time. (A travel agent who was helping her prepare the documents advised her that, and she foolishly listened.) The visa was refused. Last April, she went for another interview. This time alone, and with all the supporting documents. I now can sponser her and have a stable income. In the interview she was asked why she didnt mention that I was in the States in the first 2 instances. She answered that it was because I was a student or something of that sort. Not a very long interview. He refused the visa. (of course). Now where do we go from there? I have an H1, have not seen her in a very long time, and she is a widow who just retired. Do we write an apology letter, stating that she didnt really understand the questions when she did apply the first 2 times? It is a very sticky situation, but I dont know how to proceed.

Thanks for all the good advice!

You could write a letter to the embassy stating the reasons highlighted saying she dint understand the question and the language.

Thanks for the advice. Should the letter come from me or should it come from my mother herself? We did think of writing one. Should she write the letter while reapplying, or should she present the letter during the interview? Any help would be much appreciated, as we feel so bad that she didnt intend to lie, but took some stupid advice without thinking (or discussing it with us.)
      Thanks

It will be better if you can write a letter to the Embassy just 10 days before her interview and also send the same letter to your Mom at the time of interview. Keep it on top of the file with points highlighted saying that she did not understand American English accent and the question. So there was misunderstanding. Also the resons stating why she will go back to India.
