Hello all,
I am a PhD student and I am hoping to bring my parents to the US for my commencement during May of 2007. My brother would be graduating too and so we are hoping to have them for both our commencements. I would be the sponsor / inviter for their trip. Among the documents that I need to produce, the employer statement and the bank statement are the causes of concern that I am seeking insights/suggestions on, in this post.
As a student, I have not had a prolific pay check and consequently bank balances
over the past 5 years. However, I have recently saved enough money to support my parent's trip.
My questions are as follows. I would really appreciate any suggestions, comments or past experiences on these questions.
1. Does being a student [and hence having a moderate bank account history] have an effect on visa decisions? In other words, will the above factors lead to questioning my ability to support my parents when they are here ?
2. I have saved up some dough for my parent's visit through an internship program. So it would be a pretty quick climb of my bank balance in a short duration. Is this a healthy trend to show ? I can furnish pay checks to support the amounts though.
3. The other option I have is to ask my cousin, a green card holder, to officially sponsor my parent's trip. He is very close to our family and would invite my parents to visit him and also to attend our [mine and my brother's] commencements. Are there any risks/concerns involved here? Does this make the case weaker? Has somebody done this before ?
Looking forward to some feedback from the forum. Thanks in advance!
Regards,
-Aravind.
