My grandmother came on a visiting visa to California 7 years ago. She overstayed her visa by 3 months. Now she wanted to come and visit and they denied her visa because of this fact. Is there any way around this? Is it wise to apply again? Do we have a chance especially if we bring documents substatiating her ties to her own country like house deed, medical record (meets doctor for high blood pressure medication every 4 months), pension payments etc. PLEASE, PLEASE, does anyone out there know?

Since she overstayed once, the officers tend to think she could do it again and may be she is a potential immigrant. I donot know what explanation she gave to them in the last interview, but in the next one, she needs to be apologetic, saying she was not aware that it was that serious, she is extremely sorry it happened and she will make sure it won't happen again. Provide a good reason to visit this time(eg. a ceremony, an ill relative in US etc.), ask for a short stay of a month only and show some compelling tie to India( the ties you describe do not compel one to return). If she has close family, like her husband or a child in India, that could work. It is going to be hard , and she will need a lot of luck to get it. I know because I got my visa after an overstay but I had strong occupational ties in India.
