Visa Appointment question--Please help

Is it true that once you take appointment for visa(visitor) you cannot prepone it even if the date is available. You have to cancel the existing one? What is the procedure. Its so confusing. I tried calling the cosulate but they confused me even further. Please advice.

It is true that you need to cancel the existing appointment and book for the earlier date if available. The consulate along with the VFS has set the rules and this is true in case of Mumbai VFS, I am sure.

Thanks. So I can cancel the interview but use the same receipt number to book for another date. This is for Calcutta and its the same here.

You can do so but risk is involed in doing so.
1. The date showed as available may grabbed by someone else by the time you cancel and fill the data.
2. The date showed as available may be for single person slot and if you are trying to make appointment for more than one it may not be useful.
3. You can cancel appointment 2 times, after that your receipt number is going to be deactivated for 60 days.
So decide accordingly
