  • B2-Visitors Visa Dilemma

    Hi Everybody:

    I am on an H1-B Visa and I am sponsoring my parents' visa to US, using I-134 etc. and doing the necessary paperwork.

    My younger brother is also her in the US on a L-1 B visa.

    If during the Visa interview of my parents the Visa officer asks:

    1) Should my parents reveal that my younger brother is also in the US?

    2) Will that be detrimental for my parents to get a visitor's visa since he might argue that both sons are in the US so the chances of them returning are slim?

    Please advise.

    In my opinion lying is not advised. Visa officers are very experienced in asking tricky questions and if during the course of the interview, the truth comes out, it will be a denial right there. Do they have another child in India?
    If not, there are tips to improve the chances;

    1.Only your mother should apply and travel. Your father can stay back in India and that will act as an important tie for your mother to come back.
    This will greatly improve her chances to get the visa.
    He can apply after she has made one trip.

    2. If your parents can show healthy funds, she should show self
    financing instead of you sponsoring. People who spend their own money
    have better chances because the officer thinks they have good financial ties
    in India.

    3. She can show other ties to India like a job or a business etc if any.
