  • Administrative processing required, but visa not refused

    Hi,

I hope someone would be able to give me some positive answer as to what is going to happen in this case.
My parents went for visa intw. My mother was not asked a single question. My father was asked few questions, as to where u r going, where do u work, and few more question. At the end VO said that they are going to grant visa to my mom but for my dad they said that they are not refusing, but gave him a letter stating that his case can not be approved right now but would need administrative processing. it would take 2 to 3 weeks and they will inform my dad when to come again.

Can anyone tell, if someone had the same experience, as to what this means and what are the chances that my dad would get the visa.

he was explicitly told that his visa is not being refused.

Can someone please give some information about such a case.
I would be really very thankful.

    Regards

      Dear Punjabi,

You are not alone. DITTo thing happened to my parents. My mom got hte visa right away, but my dad's was under admin processing. After 8 long months of follow up's with Chennai Consulate and Dept of State, for which thier initial response was always "It's pending", my dad got his visa finally.

There were many mistakes by them though. We got the visa in July but when they emailed us to call them, they entered incorrect email id. So they left it at it, and never called us either. Eventually, we got to know thru dept of state that it was approved and we called Chennai cons. and they said "oh yeah, u guys never called us, so waht are we supposed to do".

Anyway, my question to you is, did they give u the Case no ? Are u checking it on the consulate's web site ? Did they hold on to ur dad's passport or did they give it back to you ? All in all, be positive, they wont deny the visa, but just the process of clearance of the admin process is too long, sometimes, not all the time. Another member "Tina Raj" and me "Newyorker" have both opened a thred re: this. So check for those threads too.

      Keep us posted.

Administrative processing required, but visa not refused

Thanks NewYorker for taking some time to reply to my thread.
They did not keep the passport, neither did they give him a questionaire nor do they have any tracking mechanism at delhi consulate.
All they mentioned on the paper they gave was PPN xxxxxxxx( passport number).
What i am thinking is that since my dad worked in the Indian Navy for almost 15 years, they might like to do some background check. We did mention in the D-157 about his job in indian Navy.
They explicitly told him that we are not refusing you the visa and it is something that is not in his hand and he has to get some administrative processing done. He told my Dad that it will take 2, 3 weeks. When my dad told him that he and my mom want to go together and he also needs to book ticket, to this he replied, please wait for 2 more weeks.
I believe that they should be able to call within a 2, 3 weeks.

I did go through your long thread sometime back. But that scared me about the time consulate might take to respond back.

Administrative processing required, but visa not refused

              Hi Newyorker,

Well the case is still pending. In New-Delhi, US consulate does not have an option of displaying the status online. I have been checking with American consulate in washington-DC ( thanks for mentioning the phone number in your earlier threads). They have been telling the same thing that the case is pending security clearance. They did say that the visa was approved but they need to get the security clearance done. They did not give me any timeline and said i can call and get the status from them. I am not sure if I shud call them once every week, as i read on Immihelp that this might delay the processing.
any ideas as to if checking the status from american office can delay the process.
its been over a month and havent heard anything from delhi consulate. My Mom i travelling next week to US, but we wanted that both of them should come. Anyways, some things are not in our hand. We are just praying that everything should sort out ASAP.

                hi
well mine is the same case but for the visitors visa. i do not think that calling them will delay the process and i myself call them atleast once a week. but even i dont know. they r suppose to tell us the status otherwise there is no point of opening a seperate section for enquiry

                  hi punjabi77,
i was wondering if ur father recieved the call from delhi consulate. My parents are also waiting for that. I was wondering how long it takes for this procedure. For my parents it's already 3weeks and there's no way to check the status at delhi consulate.
I will appreciate if you can let me the phone # that i can contact in washington.
                  Thanks.

Not yet. On 21st November it will be two months. I call the US Consulate once a week and all they say is Pending approval. I dont know if there is a way this can be escalated. I don't understand why they are taking so much time in doing this security clearance.
                    Mystry,
Does your father has any defence work experience. Because my father worked in Indian Navy.

Let me know if you hear from the embassy.

question regarding I-134 when father is going to be called for re-intw

Since my father appeared for the INTW in Sep21, 2006. its been almost 2 and a half month. I am expecting a call from the visa office for him to come for a re-intw. Since the last time he was intwd we didnt have a baby yet and i was staying in a rented apartment. But after the intw, my mom got the visa and my father was asked to wait until the administrative processing is completed. In October i bought a house and baby was born in November end. Now in the I-134 i did nto mention the house and nothign about the baby. IF he is called for an Intw, should i send him the latest letter or stick with the old one. My address has also changed. I dont want to refer anything regarding the baby and the house.
At the time he was interviewed he was told that his Visa is not refused, but require additional admin processing. So can someone from their experience tell, if new documents are required if called for a re-intw.
Last time, they did not keep any document.

From my take, I strongly believe that he wont be called for a re-interview. I recommed you to reconfirm the email id the consulte has, thru which they'll contact you when the visa is approved. It is extremely frustrating to go thru this wait, but keep hope. He will not be refused visa, but unfortunately they'll just take thier itme to finish the processing. Congrats on your new baby and home.

                          Hi Newyorker,
I had checked with the Visa office in US and they said the security clearance was done and file has been sent back to delhi office. Now no one from delhi office has called my dad. Its been a week now. Do you have any idea how much time it takes from here. Earlier they used to tell me that his case is pending. This time they told me something different.
If my father emails the Visa office in delhi, they just send the pre-written email to him that his case requires administrative processing.
if you have any information, let me know.

                          Regards,

Do write to the delhi consulate with the info that his (ur dad's)visa has got the clearance and they (the dept of state) asked you to contact the delhi consulate for further details.

Ask the delhi consulate what email id do they have on hand for further communications.

When i called the Madras Consulate, the people you speak to are the visa dept or whatever it is and they said it takes atleast a one or two weeks time before the passport dept can process the visa and get back to you.

In my case, the consulate then sent an email to my dad, which he had to print and along with his passport drop it at the VFS local office.

Call and email them. It's better if you call them from here instead of your father in Delhi. Just my opinion....

Let us know how this goes.

                            Best Wishes,
                            Newyorker
