Birth certificate - query, please help

My mother has visa appointment in April and my husband is sponsoring her. On the website it is mentioned that the child's (mine) original birth certificate is needed as supporting document. I donot have a birth certificate and in most scenarios passport is accepted as an equivalent. my husband also doesnot have his birth certificate. Is it compulsory to produce original birth certficate? If we donot have one, could we produce an affidavit or something confirming the date of birth?
