  • Who should sponser? Working dad or me?

    Hi,

My In-laws got their visa last month sponsered by my husband. Our bank balance is around 25k in US.
Now, we have taken a visa appointment for my parents in early next year.

As both of us work, I want to sponser my parents instead of my husband. (I filled their DS 156 and 157 forms and indicated that i will be sponsering their trip) Should we show some extra funds in US bank as we are expecting 4 people?

Also, my father is a govt. employee and still has 5 years of service left. Mom is a home maker. They have a lot of property (More than 1 crore) in India that they want to show as a tie to India and also an unmarried daughter doing Post Graduation(my younger sister). Even though their bank balance does not show much (20-30k INR), they have FDs and Mutual funds in lakhs. They want to sponser themselves.

We have decided on my parents buying their tickets and we sponsering their tourism here.

How much money should my father keep in his bank to show self sponsoring if required?

    Appreciate any help.

It is offen seen in here a suggestion of 10 -20 laks in S/B before interview whereas it needs only 1.5 lak for two persons up and down. How and why any body keeps in savings account so much money by cancelling FDs for no reason. It is better if some senior members discuss over this.

        From VOs point of view...
Amount is required not only for flight charges, but also for insurance, food, accommodation, pleasure trips, shopping etc. After coming back from US they need to start regular life... so the amt

Thanks for immediate response.I request you to pl.count the difference in having savings account of visitor and sponsorer. If sponsorer is financing, the assets of visitor are only to show that he has some links and atleast he will be interested to come back for that.So I am of view that the visitor need not keep more than 1 or 2 laks in sb(that is also not necessary if he can say that he is capable of arranging that amount in short notice i.e., after getting visa.Mear visa doesnt force a person to start visit trip immediately.Pl,be practicable. No savings balance is a guarantee for visa. There is a limit for purchase of US $ in India to carry on pleasure trip.

Yes, you are right regarding amounts if the trip is NOT sponsored by visitor i.e. not self-sponsored trip. Visitor may be good with the small amounts in savings per your reference as long the trip is sponsored by someone (i.e. Son, Daughter etc) in US.

But the huge amounts we are talking in this thread are for self-sponsored visa.

Do you still think huge amounts are not required even for self-sponsored visa?

              Thx

                  Cone,

For a self-sponsorer coming from India, my suggestion is to have at least 10 lakhs in cash - doesn't matter if it an FD or a savings account or a checking account or a combination there of. As you said, the trip doesn't cost any more than 2 lakhs, but if a person has only 2 lakhs in the bank, no visa officer would be convinced that a person would spend his entire fortune for a luxury trip to USA unless he has some intentions of settling there. I don't think any one would want to spend more than 10-20% of their savings for vacations. At least not me - if I have only 2 lakhs I would rather save it for my retirement instead of spending the entire money for a tour. I may start thinking about an expensive USA tour only if I have 10-20 lakhs in savings.. Hence, having 'just enough money for the tour' doesn't convince the visa officer.

This applies ONLY to self-sponsoring parents from India..

I feel it is the same confusion.I am specifically refer about keeping mony in SAVINGS account. If a self sponsoror or for that matter sponsored by a dozen GCs getting visa is doubtful if the visitor doesn^t show financial ties in home country, which can be in fixed deposit(you call it checking)immovable property or MF etx.,Pl.again donot advise to keep lakhs in savings account(which isknown in India as daily transaction amount)Thanks
