  • Stocks/shares accepted as savings?

    Hi,

My Father is working as a govt employee. He wishes to sponser for himself and my mother's trip to US sometime next year. His average bank balance might be around 20-30k INR, and he has invested all his savings in Mutual funds, FDs, shares and houses.

Is it alright to show funds in such forms or will he have to take all the money out from these sources (except house ofcourse) and show hard cash in bank as savings? Mutual Funds, FDs and Shares might come up to 10 Lakhs or so.

    Please advise.
    Thanks,
    Jyothi

VOs may not consider amounts in FDs as regular bank account amount, as one invest in such things for future happy-living and may not like to disturb that one pleasure trip.
BTW: If you are sponsoring then they can try, but not worth trying if they are going self-sponsoring.

Yes They are considered as Savings. Make sure that your father carries all the documents to the Consulate.

Thanks for your replies. I read in many cases in this forum that if either one of the parents is working, then it is better for them to sponser themselves. Hence the confusion. I have all my papres ready to sponser them, but i don't want their visa to be rejected if they don't sponser themselves inspite of my dad working.

          FYI:
My FIL has business and I sponsored them ... they got 10 years Multiple entry visa.
          Thx
